Chief Investment Officer Managing Partner
Paul Martin began his investment career with Merrill Lynch and then Oppenheimer & Co. in New York City from 1985 to 1989. Since then he has been the managing partner and chief investment officer of Martin Capital Advisors, LLP, a registered investment advisor with offices in Austin and San Antonio. The performance of the firm’s investment portfolios for more than two decades has often been ranked at or near the top of all diversified investment strategies.
Paul is an active participant in the Austin and San Antonio communities through leadership positions in a variety of cultural and civic organizations, including the San Antonio Public Library Foundation (board member, chairman of the investment committee and executive committee member), the San Antonio Museum of Art Contemporaries (executive committee member), the Thomas Jefferson Center at the University of Texas at Austin (chairman of the advisory board), the Artist Foundation of San Antonio (advisory board member), the Center for Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship at UTSA (team mentor), the Masters Leadership Program of San Antonio Alumni Association and Mind Science Foundation (board member). Additionally, he has served as board president of the Southwest Texas Council of American Youth Hostels, board president of the Austin chapter of the American Association of Individual Investors, executive committee president of the McNay Contemporary Collectors Forum, board vice president of The Jung Society of Austin, board treasurer and secretary of the Austin Investment Association, and chairman of the investment committee of the Board of Governors of the Middle East Institute. He is an active member of the CFA Societies of Austin and San Antonio, the Rotary Club of San Antonio, the San Antonio Business and Economics Society, the Harvard Business School Club of San Antonio, the Association for Corporate Growth, the World Affairs Council of San Antonio, and a lifetime member of the Naval War College Foundation and the UDT-SEAL Association.
Paul received a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal arts from St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1980 and is an active supporter of the college. As a member of the Board of Visitors and Governors of St. John’s College, Mr. Martin chaired the investment committee and was instrumental in establishing a formal investment policy for the college. He has been active in the St. John’s College Alumni Association for many years and is currently co-president of the Austin/San Antonio chapter and serves on the Alumni Association Board’s nominating committee.
Additionally, Paul is a retired U.S. Navy Reserve commander. As a Surface Warfare Officer (SWO), his service included eight years in Naval Special Warfare and a two-year tour as a U.S. Navy Reserve SEAL Team commanding officer.
Seenu Reddy, MD
Dr. Seenu Reddy joined Martin Capital as a partner in January 2010. He consults with the managing partner on a wide range of issues. Dr. Reddy is a magna cum laude graduate of Amherst College with a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience. He has worked at Bain & Company, a management consulting firm in Boston, as well as at Salomon Brothers Inc. in New York City in the Investment Banking Division. In addition, Dr. Reddy has an M.D. degree with honors from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and an M.B.A. with honors from the Owen School of Business at Vanderbilt University. He completed his training in General Surgery at Vanderbilt and Thoracic Surgery at Emory University and is Board Certified in both. He is currently Director of Cardiac Surgery, Centennial Hospital, Tri-Star Division, HCA, Nashville, TN, and Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Reddy was previously Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He is on the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association, and previously served on the Advisory Board of the San Antonio National Bank, the Executive Committee of the McNay Art Museumâ€™s Contemporary Collectors Forum, and was vice president of the San Antonio Cardiovascular Society. He is a member of numerous national committees within the medical profession and also as an advisor to medical technology startups. Dr. Reddy has published over 40 articles and book chapters.
Ms. Vanderlee is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and holds a Master of Business Degree in Management from the University of Chicago. She was an instructor in accounting and business management at Tyler Junior College for thirteen years and was active in College Christian Youth Programs. Prior to joining Martin Capital Advisors in 1993, Ms. Vanderlee worked as manager of family trusts in Oklahoma for ten years and holds the designation of Certified Minerals Manager.
Ms. Vanderlee formerly served as Investment Services Director. She is now retired but continues to provide ad hoc investment services support. Active in community affairs, she is on the board of the Austin International Hostel, where she has served as treasurer. She is also a member of the board of the Austin Lyric Opera Guild, and a member and past president of the Austin chapter of the American Association of Individual Investors.
Marketing & Communications Director
Darby received her Bachelor of Liberal Arts from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2009. Her focus was in public relations, and since then she has worked as a communications liaison for non-profit organizations, including the Mind Science Foundation and Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum, as well as local businesses. She enthusiastically joined Martin Capital Advisors, LLP, at the beginning of 2016 as a registered investment advisor representative. Her goal is to increase awareness of Martin Capital’s outstanding investment performance and services in her home city. Darby is an active member of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, and Rotary San Antonio Club, U-40 Class. She is also a registered yoga teacher and a certified spin instructor.
Business Development Consultant
Dr. Christopher Phillips has had a passion for investment at least since taking an extracurricular course on the subject decades ago when he was an undergraduate student at the College of William & Mary, where he received a BA in Government. In a classroom competition, Chris was allotted ,000 to invest in stocks over the course of the academic year, and parlayed that into nearly a quadruple gain —garnering him first place. He comes by this honestly; his father, an electrical engineer and high ranking supervisor with the Department of the Navy, moonlighted in mutual fund sales, stocks and life insurance. Though Chris was accepted into the MBA program in the prestigious Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, he instead pursued a career as a writer —but never lost his passion for the world of investing.
Chris did eventually go on to earn advanced degrees in the Natural Sciences, in Education, and in the Humanities, and a PhD in Communications. And he fulfilled his dream of becoming a successful writer. He has authored of a number of acclaimed books, including the bestsellers ‘Socrates Cafe: A Fresh Taste of Philosophy,’ and ‘Six Questions of Socrates: A Modern-Day Journey of Discovery through World Philosophy.’ Chris is founder of the nonprofit Democracy Cafe (www.DemocracyCafe.org), and has launched an array of inquiry initiatives, including Socrates Cafe, which has resonated the world over. He has also been a senior fellow at the National Constitution Center, an ethics fellow at Harvard University, and a senior writing and research fellow at University of Pennsylvania, where he developed an taught a widely appealing course on ‘Money and Democracy.’ Chris also is the 2012 recipient of the Distinguished American Leadership Award.
A fluent Spanish speaker, Chris’ aims as a registered Investment Advisor Representative with Martin Capital include helping serve Spanish-speaking clients, among others, and to further collaborate on a variety of projects, including developing ever more effective communications and diversified investment strategies. Charles A. Massiatte joined Martin Capital as a consultant in February 2017. He consults with the managing partner on national and local economic issues and investments. His responsibilities include: business development, analyzing local markets, and cultivating clear and concise client relationships.
A San Antonio native, Charles graduated from Central Catholic High School and served as executive student council president. He is currently a Bachelor of Liberal Arts (ALB) degree candidate at Harvard University, where he concentrates in economics, psychology and philosophy. Charles was a faculty research assistant to Dr. Doris Sommer, Director of Harvard’s Cultural Agents Initiative, collecting literary data on obscure 18th and 19th century Afro-Latino writers. He is also enrolled in Harvard Business School’s Credential of Readiness program (HBX CORe) focusing on business analytics, financial accounting and economics for managers.
In addition to his academic interests, Charles has a passion for service- leadership in the San Antonio community. He is the founder and CEO of New Scholars of Texas, a 501 c (3) that facilitates Socratic seminars among the underserved and vulnerable sectors of San Antonio. He is a certified Shared Inquiry ™ instructor through the Great Books Foundation (Chicago, IL) in Socratic Method. Charles sits on the board of the Young Professionals Network of the LiftFund and serves on the San Antonio Public Library Foundation Great Books committee. He is an active member of the San Antonio Business and Economics Society, Harvard Business School Club of San Antonio, U-40 Rotary Club, World Affairs Council, Symposium Great Books Institute, Democracy/Constitution Café and the Southwest School of Art.

She has developed numerous corporate brand identities, merchandise package designs, sales systems, and launched new products & brands within various industries: aviation, restaurant, automotive & motorcycle, cosmetics & numerous others. She earned a bachelor of science degree (w/honors) from the University of Texas San Antonio and is a licensed FAA private pilot. In her spare time she is training for her first triathlon and producing a documentary on a special social cause.
